Making sure you have an up-to-date survey of your property is important for several reasons.
(1) You should know the location of your boundary or occupancy lines. This is very critical information to have before you build your fence, plan a sunroom or pave or driveway.
(2) Make sure there are no discrepancies with your property or the adjoining property. You do not want any boundary issues especially if your property is continuous with alleys, highways, or roads.
(3) Know you zoning classification. A survey would report zoning classification and jurisdiction. But there could be specific restrictions so make sure you know if your property is zoned for residential or light industrial.
